How is Wingspan Health different from Apple Health?

What is Apple Health?

The Health app by Apple is a pre-installed mobile app on the iPhone that collects and displays data from your iPhone, Apple Watch, compatible medical devices, and select services that work with Apple’s HealthKit.

You can also use Apple’s Healthkit to pull in information from some patient portals – the online account you have at health systems to access your medical records.

What is Wingspan Health?

Wingspan Health is a web app that automatically pulls your records in from your patient portals - whether they're MyChart or another type of software like Cerner, eClinicalWorks, athenahealth, and others.

This lets you see your records in one place so you don't need to hop between lots of accounts to see trends or answer questions a new doctor might have for you.

The Differences Between Apple Health and Wingspan Health

Focus

Apple Health is just a part of what Apple does across its wide range of consumer electronics, software, and services.

Apple Health is a single app among others in Apple’s ecosystem among other categories from music, entertainment, and more.

Wingspan Health is a specialized app and company focused on making it easy for you to navigate healthcare.

Wingspan Health was created to help you advocate for yourself to get you the care that you need by showing you a full picture of health.

Connected Healthcare Providers

You have access to more health systems to connect to your Wingspan Health account.

Apple Health is connected to 700+ health systems.

Wingspan Health is connected to about 1200+ health systems. We know that we're only useful if we're able to pull as much information in as possible so we work hard to add connections every week, driven by asks from our actual users. Click here to see how you can request a connection to a healthcare provider if you don’t see your doctor in our database of connected providers.

Once you’re connected to your providers in Wingspan Health, we automatically update your medical records in your account.

In Apple Health, if you want to update your medical records in your account, you have to re-log in to every patient portal to pull new data.

Trends for Lab Results or Vital Signs

In Apple Health, your clinical data is organized as a list of each of your visits.

To see how your cholesterol or another vital sign has changed over time in Apple Health, you'll have to remember when the test was done and scroll back to the last time you had it taken.

In Wingspan Health, your clinical data is organized by what was tested!

In Wingspan Health, we map the data which means that we can show you all of your cholesterol tests (or TSH, CBC, BMP, etc) in a table together. That way you can see insights instantly - and you get a view of your data that your doctor might not even have access to!

Health Maintenance Tasks

Wingspan Health tailors recommendations to maintain your health, based on information from your demographics and your medical records.

The same mapping infrastructure that lets us show you similar test results altogether also lets us give you personalized insights about the health maintenance tasks you need like pap smears, mammograms, and blood pressure. For example, how often you should get a pap test is driven by your age, but also by your previous test results.

Family History

You can organize your family medical history in your Wingspan Health account.

The family history feature that lets you quickly and easily fill out information for your relatives through a questionnaire.

OR! Instead of you filling it out, you can send your relatives a link to answer questions about their own health history - and it goes right into your Wingspan Health account. We then help you see trends in your family history by grouping similar conditions together so you can better understand your health risks in a pivot table and family tree diagram.

Health Risks

Wingspan Health gives you a summary of your risk factors for common diseases or conditions.

Based on information from family history, vital signs, lab results, and other questionnaires, Wingspan Health gives you a sense of your risk for developing common health conditions. This lets you understand what you should be paying attention to, what you're doing well, and what you don't have to worry about.
