Different Types of Nurses

The Gist: There are 14 different nursing degrees in the US.

Really!?

Ranging from a few months to 8+ years, different nursing degrees and certifications come with different responsibilities. A CNA can assist a team of nurses in caring for you, while a CRNA has specialized anesthesiology training and monitors you when you’re under. Delivering a baby with a Certified Nurse Midwife instead of an Obstetrician is even associated with better outcomes for mom and baby!

What Now?

Don’t assume that every nurse you talk to has the same background or the same quality advice. Consider seeing an NP (Nurse Practitioner) or CNM (Nurse Midwife) as your “doctor”. They’ve had a lot of specialized training and focused experience.
