How to Compare your Medical Records to Evidence-Based Standards
What is the Health Risks feature in Wingspan Health?
The Health Risks feature in Wingspan Health gives you a quick summary of risk factors for common health conditions and diseases. You can see the last time you had a certain test done that screens as a factor to a certain health condition.
Not every single factor that may contribute to your risk is covered on this page nor is your specific risk calculated, but you can see if there’s anything else you should consider looking into or doing.
How does the Health Risks feature in Wingspan Health work?
After adding patient portals in your Wingspan account from your healthcare providers, Wingspan pulls all of your medical information from your health records related to clinical data (vital signs and test results) and compares them to evidence-based medicine standards for health conditions in the Health Risks feature.
Now, we’ll break down how each section of the Health Risks feature works.
Feel free to chat with us if you have any questions about this feature in the Wingspan app when you sign in or at hello@wingspanhealth.com!
Your Risk Factors
In this section, you get a personalized summary of your risk factors based on information from your vital signs, lab results, family history, and other parts of your medical record so you can see how your metrics compare to those risk factors for a common health condition or disease.
Each risk factor is paired with an outside source (like The Mayo Clinic) that explains the connection to a health condition or disease.
Why is BMI a risk factor?
While BMI is correlated with higher risk factors for some diseases, there's growing research that other metrics are much more important to health and disease risk than BMI alone. We present BMI as a risk factor on these pages so you can feel informed and empowered in conversations that you might have with your doctor. However, we're not here to tell you to lose weight.
Decrease Your Risk
In this section, you can see the bigger risk picture to help you make decisions about your healthcare needs.
Next Screening Measurements
In this section, you can see the next times you can get screened for certain tests and procedures that contribute to your risk factors for a health condition.
